Rotary Melbourne members Ahmed Tohow and Peter Berg are in the Rotary SAFE Families Inclusive Communities Initiative leadership team which is focused on taking the Rotary SAFE Families information and messaging program developed by Mary Barry and Dorothy Gilmour into Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities.
Rotary SAFE Families is supporting the African Youth Initiative (AYI), a not-for-profit organisation formed in response to the disengagement of African youth within their local communities in the western suburbs of Melbourne. AYI’s focus is on role-modelling and having a range of programs that aims to reconnect African youth to their communities and empower them to be positive contributors to society. Rotary SAFE Families is to run Workshops for the AYI Girl Chat and Women’s Mental Health groups and members of our Inclusive Communities Initiative leadership team will attend the AYI Men’s Homecourt basketball sessions to assist in a mentoring role.
On 16th August, Peter Berg and Ronald Moss (Rotary Caroline Springs) joined the AYI celebrations at the opening of their new office in Melton which was officially opened by Steve McGhie the local State Government MP. It was a day of friendship filled with activities, music and performance.
