Reflection by Barbara Yerondais 25 September 24

Grace

For just a moment this afternoon I’d like to turn our minds away from the topic of foot ball and think about the concept of GRACE

Avoiding the Christian teaching definitions and implications, this word can be used in more ways than you can imagine

as a noun

  • benevolence
  • courtesy
  • favor
  • indulgence
  • kindness
  • mercy
  • service
  • She walked across the stage with effortless grace.
  • She handles her problems with graceand dignity.
  • He has shown remarkable graceduring this crisis.
  • She is quite lovable despite her lack of social graces.
  • Let us give thanks for God's grace.
  • By the graceof God, no one was seriously hurt.
  • She tried to live her life in God's grace.
  • Your Grace

Or a verb

  • Several marble statues gracethe courtyard.
  • I hope that you will graceour gathering with your presence.

What is the true meaning of grace?

The dictionary tells me its an undeserved favour

God's grace is usually defined as undeserved favor. Grace cannot be earned; it is something that is freely given

ways of behaving that are considered polite and pleasant:

social graces  Ken is sadly lacking in social graces.

I also looked to the Graces, of Greek mythology. The Charites as more commonly known – but that’s a rabbit hole I don’t have time for today.

So back to the concept of GRACE

Lets revel in the  quality of being pleasantly polite, and show a willingness to be fair and honest:

and recall we do have a football game this weekend that only one team can win. And while the winner may triumph, The loser must accepted their defeat with good grace.

So for good food and good fellowship, lets bestow Grace on our community and show gratitude for the opportunity to offer service.
