Progress, if that’s the word, does not travel in a straight line.
When self-driving cars seemed closer than they turned out to be, Bloomberg Business published a possible time line of the steps following their adoption. I noted that in 2060 it was projected that people would be banned from driving cars. As I would be 99 years old by then I may well be happy to hand in my license. The time line is, of course, already wrong by about 10 years.
Technology will lead to unforeseen consequences, we can hope for the wisdom to know how to steer! And let us be grateful though for the possibilities that arise, and the role we can play by discussion and action.
