This is Rotary Foundation month, hence our continuing focus on it today. It’s one of the world’s most respected foundations, having secured Charity Navigator’s highest rating for 14 consecutive years. More than 4BN US$ worth of global grants have been allocated since it was founded over 100 years ago.
Many of our own projects have been supported by the Rotary Foundation. One outstanding example is East Timor Microfinance, spearheaded many years ago by Bob Glindemann, and subsequently put on a sustainable path through local management. Another is close to Chris Wang and me: the multi-Club ‘Give Every Child a Future’ vaccination program in the Pacific Islands, to which the Rotary Foundation contributed nearly 1M US$ out of the 4M US$ required funding.
Trustee Dennis Shore will give us plenty more reasons for supporting the Rotary Foundation, so I won’t steal his thunder any more, except to urge all members to put it at the top of your philanthropic giving.
For good food and friendships through Rotary, we give thanks.
