Rotary International President-elect Mário de Camargo last week said Rotarians are “the best-qualified team of volunteers on the planet”. As a relatively new member, I totally concur.
Where else would membership of a single organisation allow me to support life-saving work, help talent to shine, feed the homeless and reward our most effective, but least-known community volunteers?
Our Club makes this possible, through its support of the PNG Snakebite Partnership, awards to emerging young musicians, rostering for Second Bite duties at Prahran Market, and recognising unsung volunteers through the Sir John Reid Community Service Award.
These are just some of the things I’ve landed on in my personal deep-dive into the world of Rotary.
With today’s Club Activities and Project Updates report, we’ll be reminded not just how much our Club does, but more importantly, how many opportunities there are for members of “the best-qualified team of volunteers on the planet” to put service above self.
For fellowship forged in service to others, and friendships formed by good company shared over a fine meal, we give thanks.
