Welcome New Member - Alberto Balbo

Rotary Melbourne welcomed and inducted Alberto Balbo on 20 November 2024 with the classification Energy – Decarbonization & Transition

Alberto was born in Vicenza (Italy) and educated at the University of Padua, where he completed a degree in Electronic Engineering. He later pursued further studies, earning a Master in Product and Project Management from the CUOA Foundation in Italy and an MBA with a concentration in Strategy & Finance from Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne.

In his career, Alberto has performed in international business executive roles with Fortune 500 conglomerates, including General Electric and Honeywell, focusing on the energy and oil & gas sectors.

He is the Founder & CEO of Callendar (Australia) and the Co-founder & CCO of Maeka Limited (Papua New Guinea), two internationally operating firms specializing in decarbonization, energy transition advisory services, and project development. As Director of both firms, Alberto has worked extensively with government entities such as DFAT, IFC, and the World Bank, as well as corporate clients across the Asia-Pacific, South Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas.

With a strong background in power generation, oil & gas, mining, manufacturing, digital solutions, software, and services, Alberto has built a reputation as a leader in energy transition and sustainability.

Outside of work, Alberto enjoys travelling and learning about new cultures and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his professional commitments, Alberto is a board member of the Australian Microgrid Centre of Excellence (AMCoE), an Advisor to Carbonless Asia, and an active member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). He has also contributed to Decarbonizing Asia – Innovation, Investment and Opportunities, published by World Scientific and unveiled at COP27.
