Reflection Barbara Yerondais 2 April 2025

Protecting the Environment is one of Rotary’s 7 areas of focus

And, Did you know that for Rotary International, April is Environment month.

So given there is so much going on in the world today; various religious celebrations, a federal elections, and of course, Not to mention all the distractions form across the seas

I’d like for us to remember how important a good and sustainable environment is, not just for this month, but for everyday and everybody

Our basic needs are supported by a healthy environment, clean air and environmental sustainability ensure we will live as occupants of our planet for many generations to come.

Rotary clubs often focus on providing clean water, sanitation facilities, and promoting hygiene practices in developing countries.

We talk about assisting underdeveloped countries to build sustainable enterprises, whilst We in this room are fortunate to live in a society where we have plenty of energy to keep us comfortable.

Check out Rotary International’s  commitment to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment.

I urge you all to think of ways of changing even 1 thing that you do, that will improve your carbon foot print.

It can be as simple as hanging out the clothes to dry instead of using the dryer, walking small trips instead of driving, or improving the energy efficiency of your home.

And remember, whilst we share a meal and fellowship, Rotary shares an interest in protecting our common legacy: the environment.
