Rotary SAFE Families Mega Meeting 2

Past President Robert Fisher moderated the global Rotary SAFE Families Mega Meeting 2 on Wednesday 14 May 25.       

The second Mega Meeting of Rotary SAFE Families – Building a Culture of Family Peace on the topic of Family Violence was held on 14th May. The meeting attracted some 100 participants from 32 countries.

Rotary Melbourne Past President Robert Fisher hosted the meeting with guest speakers from Scotland, South Africa, Kenya and Australia who all gave powerful presentations. They included Gordon McInally - Rotary International President 2024-25; Grace Van Zyl - Chair of the Rotary Action Group for Peace; Dorothy Gilmour – Co-Chair Rotary SAFE Families and Oscar Lumire – President Rotary Kericho, Kenya.

Unfortunately Family Violence is a universal issue which a number of participants in the zoom chat room commented on. Some key points highlighted in the presentations included the important messaging of Rotary SAFE Families 3RRRs on the primary prevention of Family Violence; the difficulty victims have in dealing with their situation; how Family Violence can contribute to adversely impact Mental Health outcomes and in Kenya, where there are cultural issues, the need for a united community engagement to assist victims.
