Dreams to Reality - Children of Dangan Report

Executive Summary:

The community of Dangan Elementary School are deeply grateful to its donors for the comprehensive multipurpose improvement project recently implemented at Dangan Elementary School. This initiative focused on provision of access to clean water, hygiene and sanitation, enhancing the learning environment, supporting environmental sustainability, and health improvement for learners and teachers.

The project reflects a strong partnership between international and host partners with the school community for their tenacity to uplift the quality of education and healthy life within the school and environs.

Project Components and Accomplishments:

1. Clean Water Distribution System

1.1. Installation of 3 New Water Pumps and Repair of 3 water wells:

Three (3) water wells within the school premises were reconstructed/bored deeper to reach the desired aquifer/water level, that ensured continuous water supply all year. Coupled with the installation of three new water pumps, the water distribution also relieved the school children from daily manual water bucket collection from the neighborhood, and thus, able to focus more on studies.

1.2. Restoration and repainting of Handwashing Area:

The handwashing station was repainted and fully restored, creating a usable, appealing and hygienic facility that encourages regular hand wash and dental care among pupils. Educational signage’s reinforced proper hygiene practices.

1.3. Water Filtration - Installation of Water Filter Systems:

Three new water filtration systems were installed to provide safe drinking water for students and teachers. These significantly improved health and reduced the risk of waterborne illnesses, especially important in a school setting.

2. Sanitation: Repair/Repaint of 15 Toilets:

A total of fifteen (15) school toilet cubicles were repaired to ensure safe, clean, and functional sanitation facilities with continuous water supply. The repairs addressed broken plumbing, damaged toilet bowls, repainting, and water flow access issues — contributing to student’s increased attendance due to hygienic and comfortable school environment.

3. Health, Environment-Cropping – Fruit and Vegetable production.

As part of an environmental and nutritional initiative 30 Papaya, Malunggay (Moringa), Calamansi (lime) trees were planted within the school grounds. These trees provide vegetables/fruit for food and improved respiratory health to the school community, propagate for home use, promote environmental awareness, and contribute to campus “greening”.

4. New Library and Fittings:

A classroom was converted to allow for a new library facility: installed were new ceilings, new flooring, repainting, new shelves for the boxes of books and motor skills development tools donated and shipped from Brighton Library, Victoria,. The school library was refitted with desks/seating area that created a welcoming space for reading/learning.

5. Educational Supplies:

Provision of textbooks, workbooks, educational supplies for school year 2025-2026 and beyond to Grades 1-6 pupils. These materials will be used by the learners to support classroom instruction, creative activities, and academic enrichment. They have not only improved access to essential learning resources but also inspired greater student engagement and motivation across all grade levels.

6. Teaching Resource Materials:

Provision of teaching resource materials greatly supported our educators in delivering more effective and engaging lessons. Resources, such as instructional guides, visual aids, manipulatives, and digital tools, will be utilized to enhance lesson planning, support differentiated instruction, and promote interactive learning. With these materials, teachers are better equipped to meet the diverse needs of students and foster a more dynamic and inclusive classroom environment.
