Rotary Melbourne welcomed and inducted Jane de Git on 25 June 2025 with the classification Education – Schools. She has been ‘Rotary adjacent’ - a term she light-heartedly coined - for eleven years, as the wife of Past President Catherine Baxter.
What lessons have you learned about life? There are those we set out to learn, and those we inadvertently discover — about ourselves, others, and how to live a meaningful life. Jane values both formal and informal education. Her formal qualifications include a Diploma of Teaching from QUT, Kelvin Grove, Brisbane; a Bachelor of Education from Central Queensland University; and a Graduate Certificate in Religious Education from the Australian Catholic University. This knowledge, along with her 24 years of teaching and working in education and other fields, has impressed upon Jane the importance of curiosity and growth. Learning is nothing without reflection and personal development.
Connection to others is central to learning and Jane chooses to work in a field that values curiosity, growth and connection - three values central to her life. Having taught in numerous high schools in both regional and metropolitan areas of Queensland and Melbourne, Jane is passionate about the education and development of youth in Australia. Upon moving to Melbourne, she took up a leadership role in the wellbeing space and has served as a House Coordinator and a Year Level Coordinator. Being able to develop and lead pastoral programs designed to support the education and personal development of young people has enriched Jane’s life more than she realised when first stepping into the role. Creating this life of contribution has resonated deeply with her.
Outside of work, Jane has many interests. She has been ‘Rotary adjacent’ - a term she light-heartedly coined - for eleven years, as the wife of Past President Catherine Baxter. In that time, she worked to support Catherine’s various clubs (Port of Mackay Rotary Club, Brisbane High Rise Club and the Rotary Club of Melbourne). Jane regularly volunteered for hands-on projects and events. She is also a gym enthusiast, an avid reader, loves art and poetry and music and enjoys the company of friends and family. Together, these interests reflect the warmth, curiosity and joy she feels are essential for everyday life.
Jane is a member of the Central 2 group.
