Fighting Childhood Cancer

$1.8 million raised in one night. A record-breaking milestone in the fight against childhood cancer.

Last night was one of the proudest moments of my years volunteering with My Room Children’s Cancer Charity. Together, we raised over $1.8 million, a new record for our annual ball and auction. I gave every ounce of my energy for the kids, because nothing matters more than giving them the chance to live full, healthy lives. To stand in a room of such generosity and hope was humbling beyond words. I am proud, honoured, and forever committed to this fight until no child has to face cancer again.

When My Room began, the childhood cancer cure rate was far from where it needs to be. Today, thanks to groundbreaking clinical research, trials, and compassionate support, survival has climbed to 84%. Last night’s success brings us closer to that magic goal: 100% cure.

At least 95 cents of every dollar goes directly to helping kids and their families through vital programs like family accommodation, social work, occupational therapy, speech pathology, in-hospital support, medical equipment, clinical care, research and trials, and our Samaritan Fund.

When My Room Ambassador Kate Langbroek opened the pledges segment, she said it best:

“As adults, our job is to keep them alive, every child.”

It was also extremely rewarding to have Nicole Piastri now with her amazing F1 son Oscar proud ambassadors of this amazing cause.

I’m so lucky to be surrounded by the kindest, most passionate people in this work: Margaret Zita OAM (CEO), Maurizio Marcocci GAICD (Chairman), Mary McGowan OAM (Founding Member and Community Liaison), Mary Kayalicos (Vice President), Tony Schiavello (Treasurer), Vince Paolucci (Secretary), and my wonderful co-volunteer leader Anna Luvera. What a privilege it is to know you.

We’re not done until every child can beat cancer.
