'Gon-Bae!' [Cheers!] Korean Festival

Robert attended the 'Gon-Bae!'  [Cheers!] Korean Festival on Thursday 18 September 25 at the Immigration Museum, celebrating 75 years of friendship between Korea and Australia.

The relationship began during the Korean War in 1950-53, when Australia committed some 17,000 personnel from its Navy, Army and Air Force to the UN multinational force supporting South Korea against the North Korean invasion. Since then, approximately 20,000 Koreans have settled in Victoria and 100,000 in Australia overall.

It was an evening of celebration and presentations reflecting on the history between the two nations in terms of art, culture, music, dress and personal experiences. Our own Karen Kim was the key organiser of the event, and one of the guest speakers was Dr Elaine Pratley, a Rotary Peace Fellow, who both promoted the program and encouraged us all to consider peace starting with ourselves.
