Vale Alan Trumble: Funeral Notice

Alan’s wry humour and genuine nature benefited our Club as he cajoled and persuaded members to part with money, time or even their seat on occasion at lunches.  His interest in fellowship was exemplified by his membership in Reception, lunch setup, Group Captain and Fundraising committees.

The following Citation was presented to Alan in 2022 upon his receipt of Paul Harris Fellow Sapphire recognition.

CITATION

PAUL HARRIS FELLOW SAPPHIRE

ALAN TRUMBLE

30/03/2022

Alan, born in 1932, was educated first at Melbourne Grammar and then moved to the school of hard knocks rather than the Halls of Academe. His career has been for over 50 years at the top of the textile, clothing and foot ware industries, notably with Noel P Hunt, Kayser and his own companies. He has served as a Councilor of the Australian Chamber of Manufacturers, is a Past President of both the Textile and Fashion Industries of Australia and the Textile Society of Australia. He is a former Councilor of the Australian Industry Group and has represented Australia in overseas Forums.

Alan Trumble was nominated for membership by Russell Leggo and inducted in March 1998 with the classification of Women’s Clothing--Manufacture being then Owner and Managing Director of Diamond Cut International. Alan’s craggy features, and typical bushman’s frame belied his expertise as one of the leading manufacturers and marketers internationally of “intimate apparel and sleepwear for ladies!”

Immediately on joining Alan became an active member of both the Bayside and Mornington Groups serving two years as Deputy Chairman of the former. He was an active member on the Shell Livewire Committee, the New Members Committee and the Reception Committee. He served on the Board in 2003-2004 and 2004-2005. He produced a fine crop of speakers as Program Chairman in 2004-2005 and assisted as Deputy Chairman in 2005-2006.

His innovative On–To-Conference planning and execution for the 2005-2006 Conference at Geelong was masterly. Denied the challenge of a distant venue Alan transmogrified the cruise on Corio Bay to a Mediterranean extravaganza with the chance for the dramatic view of President Mev’s utilitarian wheat silos in the sunset and remains a vivid memory to all who enjoyed the experience!

The Club has had great financial benefit from his role as Fundraiser. His skills in selling fashion were translated to our cause. Each week, as he addressed us, his enthusiasm - rather his passion - went up a level. The penultimate sell was the dreadful prospect of missing out if we don’t act now as the offer closes next week! Behind it all was the smooth organization with every possible logistic aspect covered. The results were outstanding and a major boost to Club funds!!

Alan and his wife, Jann, have three children and several grandchildren. Alan’s membership has been directed at fellowship aspects of the Club. This is exemplified by his committee membership – wine fundraising, reception, on-to-conference groups, and dad’s army, and he is recognized as being active in devising new ways to help the Club. Alan enjoys his breaks at his Peninsula estate or in playing a poor hand at Bridge!

We congratulate Alan--an exemplar Rotarian--and today name him a Paul Harris Fellow with Sapphire.
