President Catherine Baxter has shared exciting highlights from her first six months leading the Rotary Club of Melbourne.
Key Achievements:
- World Environment Day Lunch (July): A major success with 230 attendees, including 55 students. The event raised $6,871 for SecondBite, The Melbourne Arboretum, and WithOneSeed. The Club also offset its 2022/23 carbon emissions by supporting tree planting in Timor Leste.
- Membership Growth: 17 new members have joined since July, with 84 prospects in the pipeline. Mentorship efforts are thriving to ensure new members remain engaged.
Project Highlights:
- Philippines School Project: Addressing water shortages and repairing facilities damaged by typhoons.
- Rotary Peace Park: Peace Bells installation completed, earning positive public feedback.
- Music Scholarship: Launching in 2025 to help talented musicians access resources and training.
- PNG Snake Bite Project: A life-saving ventilator was delivered to St John’s Ambulance for snake bite victims.
Exciting Developments:
The Club’s new Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) status will enhance fundraising opportunities for impactful projects. A Project Review Committee has also been established to scale up and streamline initiatives.
As the Club wraps up a successful year, President Catherine wishes all members a safe and happy festive season. The first volunteering activity for 2025 will take place on 22 January at RIMERN.
