Another Container of Desks & Chairs are Timor Bound

You may recall the call we made recently for volunteers for a small task at DIK to take lots of children’s shoes out of their packaging before they were sent to schools in Timor as part of the latest consignment of desk and chairs for several new schools being built by Spend it Well. Despite not being rushed with volunteers, a working bee of one (Bob) almost got the task done in the allotted time but there were still many cartons to do before the container was collected.

A couple of days later, the task was completed and just over 1000 pairs of shoes were repacked ready to go. In addition to the shoes, the container has 130 desks, 260 chairs,4 teacher’s desks, 260 back packs filled with school goods,16 under desk credenzas and filing cabinets, 4 double door cupboards, some white boards and 70 cartons of sundry school stationery.

The ship sailed on March 20th and the container is due to be discharged in Dili on 30th April.

The school designated to receive most of the desks and chairs is in a village called Madebau.
