I trust you are staying healthy!
My pleasure to further update you through my monthly email, which will include my progress month by month in some of my volunteer activities that contribute to the community, as well as the educational lessons that reflect real life and prepare me for my future. To begin with, Community Service is one of the departments that I am leading. Earlier this month, we conducted a house-repairing activity for Mrs. Sokhom’s family, who is also receiving support from the Family Support Program through a monthly food supply. As we observed that her house was in very poor condition, with a broken roof and leaking areas, we worked together and gathered about 20 participants, including CS team members, for half a day in the morning to repair the house. Everyone worked hard in the hot weather, yet they actively participated without any complaints until the work was completed. We are truly thankful and grateful to have helped the family have a safe home to live in comfortably and to allow the children to continue pursuing their education. Plus, I would also like to let you know that this month, our CS team will conduct a house-building activity together, and we look forward to creating a more positive impact for a needy family in Run Ta Ek Dek, Cho Sen City.
This month, our founder, Aviv, and our special guests, MJ and Jan, visited us. It was a really great time meeting them in person in Cambodia. What was really special was that they conducted a sharing class for three and a half days, with wonderful lessons, knowledge, and real experiences from their business fields. I learned a lot from each session, such as experience sharing, self-compassion, self-care, self-awareness, and ways to reinvent ourselves. Moreover, I was particularly interested in the topic of how to be an authentic leader by creating my personal brand and, more importantly, being clear about our core values in order to achieve the goals and dreams that we have written in the Magic Book. There are a lot of things I learned during those three days that are never taught in school. At the end of the class, I received a certificate and truly appreciated their time and effort in sharing such important lessons that teenagers and young adults need to learn and apply to real life.
One more activity that I joined was MBM, which is part of Project B – Bicycles for Education. Together, we went to fix bicycles for the children at Don Sva School in Pouk District. For the whole day, we divided into groups, with one leader and about 4 to 5 team members in each group, to fix the broken bicycles. This was not just an activity that helped the children; however, it was also an educational activity where we could work as a team, share ideas, and take time away from school to help others. It also gave us an opportunity to reflect on our lives when we were studying at public school. Particularly, our founder Aviv and our special guests, Jan and MJ, also joined us. We really appreciate their time and generous support in helping us make an amazing impact on Cambodian society. At the same time, on the night of MBM, we went back to our campus together to celebrate a small event with movies, drinks, popcorn, and, especially, performances by our students, along with many other activities that helped us relax after an exhausting day. This created unforgettable memories for everyone with our founder, guests and some of our alumni.
Last but not least, on behalf of the members of Rotaract of Siem Reap, it is my pleasure and I am really excited to be officially elected and announced as President-Elect, which is a new position for me and an opportunity to learn from all the Rotaractors, especially from the previous president. Yet, I am committed to doing my best to learn and lead. Moreover, within this month, I also joined a reading campaign with our team members and four special guests. By participating in this mission, I was really happy to see many children in rural villages who love reading and are eager to continue their education, even though most of them come from difficult backgrounds. More importantly, I was also able to share and exchange ideas and experiences with our four special guests. We read and translated, led group reading sessions, and contributed books and snacks to the children. Although this was a short time, I was able to help my community while improving my confidence in communicating with others, sharing my journey.
