Joe McGrath is, in certain circles, referred to as ‘Keeper of the Cup’. Born into a racing family, Joe has seen many sides to racing from bookmaking, horse ownership, thoroughbred breeding, media and administration.

WINE TASTING 1 NOVEMBER AT LUNCH MEETING

This year, our festive wine fund-raiser will comprise 5 premium varietal wines from the Rob Dolan Winery in the Yarra Valley.  The full selection of wines will be available for tasting at the Club meeting on Wednesday 01 November at 12pm before our regular lunch meeting at the Sofitel Restaurant.  Read full article under Club Events.

CLUB EVENTS & REMINDERS

FESTIVE WINE FUND RAISER 2017

Once again outstanding wines have been secured for our Members with the help of RCM member, Trevor Hill.  These wines represent not only great value but also a generous contribution to our Club's work in helping people in the community. This year, our festive wine fund-raiser will comprise 5 premium varietal wines from the Rob Dolan Winery in the Yarra Valley. 

 

NOMINATIONS FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

As required by the Club’s Rules, we now call for nominations for candidates for the Board of Directors and other positions for election at the Annual General Meeting scheduled for 15thNovember 2017.  Nominations may be made in any number by any member in writing, each nomination to be signed by the nominator (other than the nominee) and another member of the Club, and to carry an acceptance of nomination signed by the member nominated.  

CLUB MENTORING PROGRAM

RCM is about to commence the RCM Mentoring Program. We will be running a series of mentoring skills workshops and are looking for established members of the Club to take part in the mentoring workshops and be trained as Club mentors.

As you are all aware,  this is the first time our Club is presenting the International Women's Day Breakfast in conjunction with RC Brighton North.  We need Sponsors so that the Breakfast can be the success it has been in the past.  

ROYAL CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL EVENING

PP Peter Rogers has provided his letter of thanks as a summary of a rewarding, informative evening hosted by the Royal Children's Hospital recently. Rotary came together with the RCH Foundation to share some common research interests in children’s health and immunisation.

A VISIT TO THE OUTBACK

Robin Reid has reported into the Bulletin that he recently spent some time with Bruce Davidson visiting the amazing gorges in Karajini National Park, inland from Karratha and south of Port Hedland.  Bruce is seen here mustering sheep on Meka Station …… I hope he knows the direction he is mustering these sheep???

 

 

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL UPDATE

BILL GATES: ENDGAME FOR POLIO

 

Rotary International's fifth annual World Polio Day was co-hosted by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Bill says there is much cause for celebration:  "It is very possible that 2017 may see the end of the wild polio virus."
