Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Robert Doyle AC will present his annual address to the Club.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING NOTICE

96th Annual General Meeting of the Rotary Club of Melbourne Inc. is to be held during the regular weekly luncheon meeting at the 35th Floor Restaurant, Sofitel Hotel, on Wednesday 15 November at 1.10 pm. 

LAWTON COOKE BIRTHDAY WHISKEY!

Also at this week’s meeting the annual Lawton Cooke birthday whiskey will be on offer at the wine raffle.  Please show your strong support and wish Lawton a happy 97th birthday today - 15th November.

LAST WEEK'S SPEAKERS

THE HON. TED BAILLIEU

The Hon. Ted Baillieu left everyone reflecting with his powerful portrayal of Sir John Monash.   He proved that we all have some form of relationship with Sir John in a dissertation,  historical photographs and fascinating depiction of some of our Melbourne and rural streets showing the number of families who gave their sons and daughters to the armed forces during WW1.  Read on for Peter McCall's submission.

 

AMALI ALUTHGAMAGE, PEACE SCHOLAR

Last week, as part of Foundation Month,  we heard from Amali Aluthgamage and her experience as a Global Grants Scholar and how whe was applying her new knowledge in her current work.  Amali has over ten year's experience in Public Health with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.   Prior to completing her Masters Degree in Social Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh as Rotary Global Grants Scholar,  she managed a community controlled

FESTIVE WINE FUND RAISER 2017

Once again outstanding wines have been secured for our Members with the help of RCM member, Trevor Hill.  These wines represent not only great value but also a generous contribution to our Club's work in helping people in the community. This year, our festive wine fund-raiser will comprise 5 premium varietal wines from the Rob Dolan Winery in the Yarra Valley.

JANET PURVES

We were sorry to hear that Janet Purves sustained some injuries and broken wrist when falling recently.  After four days in Cabrini,  Janet is home and recovering.   We wish Janet a very speedy return to good health and suggest that she would really enjoy a phone call.  All the best Janet! 

VALE: GARY FUHRER

News has just come to hand that Gary Fuhrer - Corporate Designee for Scalzo Industries has died following a brief battle with cancer.  He was 63.   Garry joined our Club in July 2014.   Our sympathies are extended to his wife Virginia, the extended family and the Scalzo Industries family.

Funeral service is as follows:  Thursday 16th -  2.30pm at St Ignatius Cathedral,  326 Church Street,  Richmond

BILL CHARLTON UPDATE

Bill Charlton - Past Treasurer, Director and Paul Harris Fellow Bill Charlton has advised that he will be relocating to the suburbs of Perth on the 14th November.  Bill has been a recent member of the Investment Committee, 0808 committee and Group Captain for the Canterbury Waverley Group and together with his wife Beverley planned many events.  Bill, we hope you settle well and keep in touch.  Bill & Beverly’s new address is 3 Viewway Nedlands 6009 WA.  Phone 08 9386 4163 and email remains as lwecharlton@outlook.com.

Thank you for all your service to the Club, particularly in the restructure of the Administration of our Financial accounts but most of all for your fellowship.  Your friends at Rotary will miss you both but understand the pull of family.
