JIM MARKOVSKI : SIR JOHN REID COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

Jim Markovski,  the Les Twentyman Foundation, was awarded the Sir John Reid Community Service Award 2017.  Photo shows Jim with a fellow volunteer Arec Athium and Chris Stilwell.   Jim is admirably qualified to be a worthwhile recipient for this year's Award as the following will attest.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OFFICE BEARERS 2018-19

The Annual General Meeting was held at the lunch meeting on Wednesday,  15 November.  The Minutes have been accepted and Office Bearers and Directors for 2018-19 were duly elected with some changes from the previous year.  

2018 BREAKFAST UPDATE

Our signature event for 2018, the International Women's Day Breakfast is gearing up with Committee meeting regularly.  Kerry is seen here updating our Members at last week's meeting.  Our request for more well-positioned sites for our signage boards has been met.  Thank you to the Members who agreed to showcase our Event.  We are needing more Raffle prizes now.  Can you assist please?  

 

DONATIONS IN KIND NEED ..... YOU!

As you are all aware,  Donations in Kind are moving home from Shed 40 and they are seeking good Samaritans to assist in the move across the road.  An example of this is in the need to have someone pick up school equipment in Lancefield on 7 December.  There are many hands needed to successfully relocate DIK.  Are your hands available in December??

IAN RISELEY REMINDER: TORONTO 2018

President Mary has provided the following invitation from Ian Riseley inviting Rotarian Leaders and fellow Rotarians to the 2018 Rotary International Convention in Toronto.

 

DISTRICT CONFERENCE: WARRNAMBOOL 16-18 MARCH

District 9800 Conference Bookings:  The planning is well advanced for the Rotary District 9800 Annual Conference in Warrnambool on 16 to 18 March,  2018.   Ask anyone who has attended our Conferences, they will tell you it’s not to be missed!

 

CLUB EVENING MEETING

At Old Treasury on Wednesday, 6 December, for a night of fellowship and great discussion,  AFL Football brothers,  Tom Phillips (Collingwood) and Ed Phillips (St Kilda) and Stephanie Woollard will be presenting on the topic:  “The opportunity to travel and make a difference at the Seven Women centre, inspiring purpose and creating powerful role models!”

DO YOU KNOW A POTENTIAL ROTARY GLOBAL GRANT SCHOLAR?

Bob Fels is seen here updating us on The Rotary Post Graduate Scholarship with a value of nearly $40,000.  District 9800 has designed this scholarship to focus on the recipient's overseas study in a Masters degree.  District 9800 is inviting Victorian applicants to apply.  Do you know a potential Scholarship recipient?

PP PETER ROGERS NOMINATED

At the 29 November Rotary Club of Melbourne luncheon meeting members present were asked to vote on the following resolution.  “At this regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Melbourne Inc held on 29 November 2017, the members resolve to nominate past President Peter Rogers for the position of District Governor, District 9800 Inc. for the Rotary Year 2020-2021."  Past President Philip Endersbee asked members to vote, as advised by email and hard copy to all members, on 22 November 2017. Members voted unanimously in favour.  The motion was carried.

 

GROUP 'END OF YEAR' CELEBRATIONS

CHRISTMAS FUN FOR MALVERN GROUP

Twenty-three Members and partners gathered around the long table in a private room at the Malvern Hotel to celebrate the coming festive season but also to catch up on all the news.   Reg Smith again organised an evening of wonderful conviviality and fellowship.   It was terrific to catch up with Members' partners.   Plans are being made for our February lunch now.   (Bulletin would love to hear what the other Groups are up to!!!! Incidentally,  the food was worth waiting for.)  Thank you Malvern! 

 

MORNINGTON PENINSULA GROUP EVENT

Maggie Matters reported the Mornington Peninsula Group enjoyed a "marvellous afternoon at the home of Phil and Jane Endersbee" for their End of Year Event.  Fifteen members of the MPG attended including Group Captain Leader, Kevin Sheehan and Lisa Sheehan. The other attendees were Phil and Jane Endersbee, Maggie and Peter Matters, Warren and Gillian Johnson, Mev and Brenda Connell, Clive and Helen Weeks, David and Heather Beanland, Barry Rawlings. Unfortunately no one thought to take a group photo." (Ed. Note:  Possibly they didn't take a photo, as they were having "tooooo good a time"!  Maggie has promised a photo next time).

 

TOORAK 2 CELEBRATE TRADITIONALLY

Stephen Mandie conveyed it was a traditional Christmas meal for Toorak 2 Group. This type of function has been a tradition for over 30 years led by the late Lawrie Shears who was Captain for over 25years.   Lawrie's wife Christine was a guest when 18 Members and partners celebrated at the Melbourne Club with photograph showing President Mary being thanked for her Guest attendance.
