THIS WEEK IS OUR CHRISTMAS MEETING

One of the highlights in our amazing calendar of events is the celebration of the forthcoming festive season when we all celebrate with our Rotary friends, families and colleagues at our special Christmas meeting and this year will be no different.  This Wednesday, we will have Emily Xiao Wang, Soprano and Karen van Spall, mezzo-soprano, performing excerpts from Handel’s Messiah and other choice classical numbers. Music by our Maestro David Kram and together they will help us by leading the Carols.


Our Annual Christmas Appeal collections are Tax Deductible and this Festive season will be wisely used supporting the magnificent work of Rotaract Melbourne City who will be producing hampers of personal goods as gifts for clients of Launch Housing experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.

LAST WEEK'S MEETINGS

SNR SGT MARILYNN ROSS APM, VICTORIA POLICE

Snr. Sgt. Marilynn Ross provided a very sobering and informative session which generated several questions during and after her presentation on human trafficking and the link to the sex industry here in Australia.  Her address coincided with Victoria's celebration of Human Rights Week.   

LAST EVENING MEETING FOR 2017

Stephanie Woollard conveyed that the last Evening Meeting was a great success with 35 people from a diverse mix of ages and cultural backgrounds meeting to discuss "Building a Better World" and the positive impact of role models and how meaningful travels can be a source of life inspiration.

COMMUNITY WELFARE COMMITTEE UPDATE

Thanks to James Pullar for his update on the status of the Community Welfare Committee.  We would also like to thank James and the Committee for providing the attached fantastic prologue:  "Let Rotary Connects Help Make Your Projects Successful". 

 

WE NEED YOUR USED STAMPS PLEASE!

We need your used stamps to help end Trachoma by 2020!  Your Used Stamps, once trimmed and sorted, will be sold, and every dollar raised will go towards preventing this infectious eye disease by improving health and hygiene in remote
areas of Australia. Together with the World Health Organisation, we can achieve the global effort to eliminate Trachoma by 2020.

 

DISTRICT CONFERENCE: WARRNAMBOOL 16-18 MARCH

District 9800 Conference Bookings:  The planning is well advanced for the Rotary District 9800 Annual Conference in Warrnambool on 16 to 18 March,  2018.   Ask anyone who has attended our Conferences, they will tell you it’s not to be missed!

ARI SKINNER, CLUB VOLUNTEER CO-ORDINATOR

Bulletin recently asked Ari Skinner about her new role in our Club and she responded:  "As a new member to Rotary I am pleased that I have been given the role of Volunteer Co-Ordinator within the Club. This role provides me with the opportunity to get to know members, the workings of the Club and allows me to do something of value.

 

GROUP NEWS

CENTRAL 1 GROUP CELEBRATE END OF YEAR

Central 1 Group enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Dinner last week at International House,  Melbourne University. Rotary has a strong association with the International House so it was a delight to spend the evening there. President Mary and her husband Philip were guests and the University and Rotary Club of Melbourne's Deborah Seifert were also present.  Thanks to Iqbal Reta for photo and details.

Dr. Catherine Crock AM,  was our Vocational Service Awardee in 2016/17 and her work in creating a kinder, more patient centric culture in healthcare is so important.  The fundraiser the message promotes is a wonderful opportunity for Festive Season giving.
