Rotary Melbourne hopes you had a restful break and wishes you a happy and prosperous new year for 2023.
As a Rotary Melbourne member you maybe aware Rotary is extremely active in Sri Lanka and Past Rotary International President Ravi Ravindran (a close friend, who is also a member of the same Rotary Club in which I was once a member) is constantly raising the bar. By Suresh Marcandan.
Whether in good times or in bad, the tiny island nation of Sri Lanka never fails to disappoint when hosting international events. This is particularly so when it comes to Rotary events, and hence the recent visit of RIP Jennifer Jones on her “Imagine Tour” of Sri Lanka, was no exception. By Suresh Marcandan.

Trevor, Peter, Deb (and David) had a good Second Bite 🍎🥦🥖 collection on Sunday, both in terms of quantity and quality. We had 3 boxes of egg plant, 3 boxes of mango, many bananas, onions, potatoes and lots of bread. It filled up the SUV. We then dropped the collection at the Salvation Army.

This year’s Christmas Appeal supports Rochester Flood recovery efforts. So far we have exceeded the goal set thanks to the generosity of lunch attendees and members from afar.
We heard from Heather Watson, President of Rotary Rochester how the floods have impacted and how grateful they are of the support. Only 100 of the 1000 homes in Rochester have NOT been inundated by water! Thank you.
Tax deductible Donations can be still be made via Give Now. https://www.givenow.com.au/rotarymelbxmasrochesterflood.

As we take a break for the holidays, President Adrian reflects on the year at Rotary Melbourne.
Leigh was sponsored by Rotary Club of Melboune in 1979 for a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship which District endorsed. He went to the University of Birmingham UK, where he studied foundry metallurgy. He worked briefly in UK before going to USA where he had a successful career, including working with high performance vehicles in Indianapolis. He was on a brief visit to Melbourne but his wife became ill so it will be longer than anticipated. Leigh is yet another Rotary Scholar nominated by our Club who has not only excelled in his field but demonstrated his gratitude to Rotary by keeping in touch. It was great that he reached out to Rotary Melbourne and attended our Festive Lunch on Wednesday 14 December 2023. By Bob Fels
At last week’s Festive meeting we were all entertained by tenor Christopher Busietta and soprano Dana Zeimer. It was a very packed meeting with a very full room and a number of presentations.
