Greetings from Siem Reap City, and it is my pleasure to keep you updated with my monthly email, which includes some of the things I have done throughout the second half of August and September so far. Time flies so fast that I could not imagine that I am currently studying at university and have almost finished my second term as an IR major. Reflecting on what I have learned must be a strong foundation to build a bridge for my future profession.
In this term, I have been studying three subjects as well. English II is one of the courses that focuses on English speaking, grammar, and writing that are usually used in essays. History of Cambodia was studied from all the different Khmer eras, from the empire until the current era of Cambodia. The last subject is Introduction to Public Policy. This class was always taken online, and the professor always raises the newest cases to make discussions among all the students. We also never forget the assignments before and after class to ensure that the students keep reminded and learn something related to the core lessons in the main study book.
Besides my university classes and studying Chinese, French, and English at CRST, I tried to manage to join the Family Support Program as a tuk-tuk driver as much as I was available. Joining this activity is not to fulfill the contribution record requirement, yet it is the time to give back to our community through my energy and heartfelt effort, even though my pocket is empty. Importantly, it allows me to picture the reality in society, where there are many people, like widows, the elderly, and children, living in tough conditions, but they are still motivated and remain hardworking, doing their best just to survive. Therefore, whenever I feel lost or get stuck in something, those images are a real reflection of my previous life that pushes me to wake up, keep my purpose in mind, and keep making progress. Even if it slows down, I am still moving forward.
Last but not least, I would like to give an update on our Community Service Program achievements. Recently, in late August and early September, we successfully built two houses for two needy families, one at Run Ta Ek and another in Angkor Chum District. I acknowledge that this was hard work that required a bit more energy and compassion to participate in. Anyways, I really appreciate the teams and our students who were willing to actively get involved throughout the work, from the preparation until the building days. I am truly grateful and thankful to all the sponsors and supporters for their generosity in helping create lasting change for Cambodian families. The support enables families to live in safer and better shelters while giving their children the opportunity to pursue their education, believe in themselves, and build a better future.
