Disadvantaged kids of Melbourne need your help!!!

The Rotary Club of Melbourne is inviting all Club members to act as volunteers for the Sunday 8 October 2017 Around the Bay bike ride.

We have been part of this event for over 10 years and last year the club donated a total of $13,500 to the Smith Family's Learning for Life program.

This year we have been offered an additional 30 volunteer positions (additional to the 55 positions we have filled in recent years).  With Bicycle Network Victoria contributing $50 to $75 for every volunteer and the Club matching this on a dollar for dollar basis we should be able to significantly increase our contribution to the Learning for Life program.

The volunteer locations are on the City to Altona and City to Elwood routes, some Frankston sites and the Sorrento rest area.  In addition we will be providing drivers to assist with breakdowns on the route. From a Smith Family perspective, our past involvement has enabled numerous children from disadvantaged family situations to remain in school in their quest for a better education and hopefully more options to enjoying a fulfilling life. We work with The Smith Family to direct our donations to school expenses for children in inner city areas and after school extra support.

Around the Bay combines fun and friendship while helping a great cause. We would love to enrol you as volunteers acting as route marshals, helping at the Sorrento rest area or as two person teams in the SAG (support and gear) operations.

All Rotary members need to do is let myself or Trevor know you are able to help and we can work with you to get you signed up. As was the case in prior years the length of time allocated will generally be 4 to 6 hours.  Please see the attached position descriptions for the three different roles. We will brief you closer to the event and you will be provided with ......

• Necessary equipment to complete your role

• A drink bottle and hat that can be kept after the event

• Insurance cover while completing the role

• A hi-visibility vest for safety purposes

For you, your friends, your partners and your families all that we need at this stage is to provide me the name of each volunteering person, a phone contact and a return email.  Also let me know who wants to be in a two person team together and I will try to arrange for this.  When we have this information we will get you signed on and contact you with your allocated location.   I would appreciate your commitment as soon as possible or by Saturday 3rd September at the latest.
