100TH YEAR COMMEMORATION OF BATTLE OF AMIENS

"Each year the 0808 Committee of the Club organises a ceremony at the Shrine of Remembrance to commemorate the Battle of Amiens. This year was a special occasion as it marked the 100 year anniversary of the Battle. The commemoration was a great experience for those who attended commencing with a fly over from the Point Cooke RAAF Base of a tiger moth aircraft.

Following this, there was a moving ceremony in the sanctuary of the Shrine which included the laying of wreaths by President Robert on behalf of our club and representatives of several groups associates with Sir John Monash laid wreaths.

The oath was read with the guard of honour at attention and the ceremony was concluded with the singing of the national anthem. The event continued in the western gallery with a moving speech by Danielle Ney-Kemp, the consular councillor of the French Consulate.

Music was arranged by David Kram of our club and included excerpts from the Monash Cantata sung by Andrea Creighton and Michael Laloum. The same artists sang the ensemble “Monash letter to Australian Core”, who were joined by the Melbourne Chamber Choir.

The ceremony was well attended by Rotary Club members and others who enjoyed the moving and thoroughly enjoyable ceremony."    Thank you Peter Davis.
