Chaired by Dr Robert Webster OAM, President of the Victorian Branch of the Returned and Services League, the keynote speaker will be the Hon. Ted Baillieu, Former Premier of Victoria.
Monash, an engineer, devised a strategy of incorporating all the elements available to him, aircraft, artillery and infantry in an integrated approach to warfare - the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. His methods were considered innovative at the time, but were hugely successful and are now part of standard military operations. His approach helped turn back the German Spring Offensive of 1918, hastening the end of the war.
In addition to his military accomplishments, Monash played a defining role in the demobilisation and repatriation of Australian troops at the end of the war. His initiatives remain with us today, becoming part of what it means to be Australian.
Field Marshall Montgomery, the famous British army commander in the Second World War wrote: "I would name Sir John Monash as the best general on the western front in Europe"."
For Rotary, this event will be a high profile event in our neighbourhood which will honour, on this significant anniversary, the contribution of a great Australian to our way of life and our view of ourselves.
We cordially invite you, members of your team, friends and family to join us for this special event. Attached is a flyer with the details of how to book. On behalf of the combined Riverside Cluster clubs, I do hope you can join us. 20181127_-_Monash_Flyer_-_Final.pdf
