Rob held the position of Chair of Youth Hostels Australia and has provided many years of service to the youth hostel movement. Previously, Rob has served as Vice-President on the Hostelling International Board.
Rob described how HI is a worldwide network of around 3,600 youth hostels in 79 countries. It is one of the world’s largest membership organizations with about 3.6 million members who generate over 35 million overnights a year. HI is a UK Charity that manages the Federation of the Not-For-Profit Youth Hostel Associations.
As we all know, exploration and travel can lead to a better understanding of other cultures, and in turn, can make the world more peaceful, smarter and tolerant. This has been HI's mission for almost 100 years.
Whilst operating ‘for good and not-for-profit’ and making accommodation cheaper, any surplus funds are reinvested in affordable hostelling and not shareholders.
