'Our guest, Anthony McClaran has a most engaging manner and he spoke with eloquence and clarity about the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Authority (TEQSA). This regulatory authority was established by an Act of the Australian Parliament in 2011, to provide oversight of the tertiary education sector in Australia, replacing the previous state-based authorities. Its role is to protect student interests, and indeed has a student advisory group. It manages risk in the sector including governance, finance and, more recently, student well-being and safety.
Anthony is CEO of TEQSA and brings expertise from his prior roles in the UK, most notably as CEO of the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency. Anthony spoke of the fast-moving policy cycle, with issues as diverse as contract cheating, freedom of intellectual enquiry, and sexual harassment/assault on campuses. Anthony noted that Australia’s tertiary education sector is one of the most successful in the world, second only to the USA." Thanks Jane.
