President Robert provided some highlights of the Conference including:
Lord Mayor Sally Capp – focused brilliantly on the challenge and slowly improving actions to reduce homelessness.
Dr Edna Adan Ismail (Somaliland) – education is the key; encourage children to learn.
Christine Nixon – successful leadership is about supporting, encouraging and getting the best from people; changing by getting rid of the barriers; having a go.
Stephanie Urchick (RIPPR) – “FIDS” (yet another Rotary acronym): Fellowship, Leadership, Integrity, Diversity and Service – that’s what Rotary is all about.
"The Homelessness Forum organised tirelessly by PP Austen Burleigh was a great success with thoughtful and inspiring presentations from friends of Melbourne Rotary: Robert Pradolin, advocate for housing for all Australians, and former CEO of the Brotherhood of St Laurence, Tony Nicholson. Past President Quin Scalzo and RCM Homelessness champions, James Pullar were major contributors to a well attended and inspiring breakout session." Thanks Reg.
"RCM’s endeavours were well and truly visible in the Showcase exhibition of What Rotary Does.
Our indefatigable team, led by Hugh Bucknall, had over a 1,000 conversations when handing out invitations to Rotarians to think about what their Club will do to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia, and of course calling for volunteers to help out at the RI Convention in May 2023.
RCM's banner projects: End Trachoma, the Pacific Island Vaccination Program, and Rotary Safe Families were well promoted, alongside Women in Rotary, Seven Women and the DIK Warehouse.
R100 projects from other Clubs, such as the R100 Baton Relay and the Rotary Peace Pole - 100 peace poles to be presented to 100 schools were also prominent." Thanks Reg
