He had been told by PDG Ross Butterworth some time ago about a bell that he thought the RC of Melbourne had which was called the Millennium Bell and was supposed to be passed onto the newest Rotary club in the District.
How wonderful to hear the Rotary Club of Wyndham Harbour is due to have their Charter Presentation event on Saturday, 6 April. It will be the first to Charter in Victoria in almost 3 years and the first to Charter in D9800 for nearly 4 years. We wish them well and look forward to working with them.
Here is a bit of background to the Millenium Bell: "As the first club in Australia, RCM has been the starting point for all the D9800 clubs (and most others) over the years. When the centenary of Rotary occurred RC Melbourne arranged a special event at Convention Centre and the Millenium Bell was created at that time.
The intentions at the time were to circulate it to the newest chartered club, not just in our district, for use over a short period in club meetings at the opening of the meeting and to call the members to order etc. It was then meant to be handed over to the next club to be chartered and so on.
Oh yes, I nearly forgot to mention. The Millenium Bell is safely stored at RCM and will be delivered for the charter of RC Wyndham Harbour in April.
