ROTARY 100 PEACE POLES PROJECT UPDATE

Great news from Michael Rabey, Rotary Canberra Burley Griffin who has a fantastic Rotary 100 Years Celebration project underway!  Michael has ordered the first six sets of plaques for our Peace Pole Project.  Currently, he has 11 Schools booked for tours of the Canberra Rotary Peace Bell.  All of those bookings are from NSW or the ACT. Michael would love to hear from Victorian Clubs and Schools.

He reports that: “On Sunday I will be at the Christchurch Peace Bell where a ceremony for those murdered in the Christchurch attack will be remembered.

President of the Christchurch Club,  Paul Fitzharris, the DG for the area John Driscoll and possibly DGE Gary Hopkinson will attend.   My plan is to make our project a true ANZAC one by inviting them to join with us in Australia in our Rotary Peace Poles in schools initiative.

To qualify,  New Zealand Schools will first need to pay a visit to the Peace Bell in Christchurch and take part in a ceremony. Then the local Rotary Clubs can present the School with their own Peace Pole.”

This ties in nicely with a similar model, where Australian schools visiting the Peace Bell in Canberra, are entitled to their local Rotary Club installing a Peace Pole in their School.  Talk to Michael at michaelprabey@gmail.com   Find out how your local primary school can be involved in this terrific project linking our young people to Peace in the World.
