VOLUNTEERING UPDATE

Ari writes:  "Last Friday, Trevor Nink, Chris Stillwell and I met with Rebekha Wunder from the University of Melbourne Advancement office to organise the final details for a staff volunteer project coordinated in conjunction with our  Club.

The Advancement Office is fostering a culture involving giving back to the community by volunteering their time for different "hands on" activities.  Activities that have made the final list are:

  • Donations in Kind warehouse;
  • Melbourne Zoo;
  • Tree planting with Serco;
  • Jobs at Rotary House.

These activities will be spread out over three days, the 29, 30 April and 2 May.  Staff will choose which day and activity suits them best. We hope this volunteer initiative with Melbourne University develops to be a mutually beneficial relationship for volunteering opportunities in the future.

If you have ideas for future collaborations or you are interested in volunteering your own time, remember we have Around the Bay coming up in October.  Perhaps something "hands on" and more regular is what you have in mind?  I recommend Second Bite or DIK may be for you.

Send an email to me at volunteering@rotaryclubofmelbourne.org.au with your availability and I will happily respond.

In the next couple of weeks,  selling Raffle tickets for our super Fundraising Raffle - Give Every Child a Future/Rotary 100 Years initiative at your gym, office, place of worship etc. is a great way to commence your journey into "hands on" volunteering."

Yours in Rotary

Ari Talantis - Volunteer Coordinator
