Dr Shahid Yamin (Shahid) was inducted on 19th June 2019 with the classification Technology – Business Development.
Shahid was born in Calcutta (India) and migrated to Pakistan with his parents. He was educated at B.V.S Parsi High School, Adamjee Science College in Karachi, Brunel University London, University of Newcastle NSW, University of Technology Sydney, and Monash University Victoria, completing a Material Science Engineering, Masters of Business Administration, Graduate Diploma in Adult Teaching, and a PhD degree in Strategy and Innovation in 1997.
Shahid has made over fifty presentations in prestigious international professional forums in twenty-six countries across the globe. During the course of this educational journey, Shahid has worked as an Engineer in Giesserei Kohlscheid GMBH, Aachen, Germany, Stone Marine Ltd, London, Marketing Manager, Hoechst Pakistan Limited, Senior Consultant, UNIDO, Senior Research Engineer BHP, Newcastle, and Management Consultant to Public Utilities.
Post completion of academic qualifications, Shahid has successfully supervised ten PhD candidates, taught and mentored international students in Creativity, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Strategy, in Australia, S.E. Asia, South Asia, Europe, and Middle East. Many of his students have created multi-million companies and others are working in senior executive positions in global corporations. He developed Centre’s of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to increase entrepreneurial capacity in Middle Eastern societies, specifically focused on developing women entrepreneurs to create home-based businesses.
He returned to Australia June 2017 and in conjunction with two cofounders developed the idea of a commercial start-up born global business with a social and humanitarian conscience. Global Opportunities Commercialisation (GOC) was established with a mandate to help start-ups to successfully grow by guiding their journey through hurdles. One of the key strengths is that we help technology-based start-ups to forge their technology with creative business concepts in order to enable them to create synergistic higher economic value in global markets thereby increasing the probability of sustained survival and growth.
Our second key strength is our ability to arrange funds from ethical funding agencies across the globe. The third key strength is our unequivocal commitment to alleviate poverty and poverty mindset using GOC designed framework of Social Entrepreneurship. In this context, Shahid is invited to give a keynote address and participate in expert panel sessions in a global conference in Somalia in July 24th -27th July 2019.The title of his address is “Poverty vs Poverty Mindset: A Social Entrepreneurship Approach to Universal Poverty Alleviation”.
Shahid and his wife Shagufta have two children and two grandchildren. As a family, the Yamin’s are a very cohesive unit and enjoy travelling, picnics, photography, hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
Shahid is member of Canterbury/Waverley group. He is a member of the Access and Inclusion Advisory Board in the of the City of Casey Council. He participates in citizen forums regularly and work tirelessly to support initiatives directed to create equal access and inclusion to all facilities without reservation for all citizens of the Casey City Council.
