Katie recently completed her Master of Education (with a specialisation in Mathematics) at the University of Melbourne by submitting her final project on 10 June, a 6,000-word research paper regarding the intentions of Koorie peoples in Victorian education documents.
After countless hours and many late nights working on the research paper, her efforts have paid off! She is thrilled to announce that she received an H1 on her research paper and not surprisingly, an H1 in the Capstone course as well! Katie enrolled in seven courses to complete her master’s and is pleased with her overall result as a high H1.
She is proud of her accomplishment and plans on utilising her increased knowledge in her position as a high school mathematics teacher at HLV High School in Victor, Iowa this upcoming August. In addition, she will someday incorporate her newly acquired knowledge into her future Global Scholar goals in teaching, helping, and feeding the refugees detained at the border of the USA and Mexico in the prevailing Southern Border Crisis.
She officially graduates the eve of the 25 July in the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton.
To celebrate the completion of her Masters Degree, Katie explored the south west region of Western Australia these past couple weeks. She started in Perth, drove down to Albany (she LOVED Albany), along the coast through Denmark and Walpole, then up through Manjimup to Margaret River. She explored down to Augusta and then up to Dunsborough and Busselton from Margaret River, checking out the caves, forests, wineries, bakeries, and jetties, along the way.
Highlights of the trip include ironically being the only one showing up for free/paid tours (perks of holidaying in WA during the winter!), seeing whales for the first time EVER from the Bald Head Trail Walk (Albany), having a dugite snake dance across her feet while bushwalking along the Point Possession Heritage Trail (Albany), watching an old fisherman named Bill catch a HUGE squid (Whaling Cove, Albany), and managing to convince an adorable little quokka to snap a selfie with her!
You can catch Katie live on Rotary Radio from 3-4pm on Tuesday, 9 July. You can also hear her speak at:
