Noting that one in four Australians admit to feeling lonely for three or more days per week, Associate Professor Stafrace discussed the multiple triggers for loneliness including divorce, bereavement, unemployment and financial distress.
He canvassed the adverse impact loneliness has on physical and mental health as well as quality of life.
He also spoke about how to help people who are lonely. Finally, he canvassed the work being done by the Inner Southeast Metropolitan Partnership including building compassionate communities, co-creating spaces and using social media platforms to connect neighbourhoods.
