BOB BURGESS – 43 years a member
This week we singled out Bob for his long time membership in the Club. A bit about Bob:
Bob was inducted into the Club on 8th September 1976 – 43 years ago under the classification of ACTUARIAL SERVICES.
Nominated by Ted Knight and interviewed by Jock Reid. Bob's father Sam Burgess was a member at that time having joined in 1952. He died, aged 90, in 1993 after 41 years’ membership.
Bob served as Board Director in early 1980s. Served on Rotaract, Community Welfare, International Programs, Welfare of the Young, Welfare of the Elderly, Reception (4 years as Chairman and continuing member) and Investment Committees. Bob was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation in 2018.
Bob’s affinity of fellowship extended to being Group Captain for the Malvern group and is often a greeter as we arrive for lunch.
Bob, we thank you for your ongoing belief in the Club, our projects and service to the community. Congratulations on this significant milestone.
Bob has responded: "I’m very proud and grateful to have been a member of this great Club over the last 43 years. Rotary does such wonderful things both locally and around the world.
My father was a member of our Club before me but wasn’t my proposer. I was proposed as an additional active member by my boss, Ted Knight, who held the actuarial services classification at that time.
When I joined the Club we met at the Masonic Centre in Victoria Parade. I’ve seen more than 40 Presidents come and go. Without exception they’ve all done a great job and each has left his or her mark on the Club. Kevin is in the process of leaving his mark and I wish him all the very best for the remainder of his term." Thanks Bob.
