Thanks to Graham O'Donnell and Phil Cornish, these students were provided with Rotary Safe Families in its initial format of 2 Workshops.
They were asked to develop a Promotional Plan mainly based on the delivery of workshops through social media et al. The Workshop model has proven to be too laborious and required a suitable facilitator, venue, invitations, printing and too much time to fulfil the mission of every Rotarian to be informed in preventing family violence inc. elder abuse.
Dorothy met with the students on a number of occasions, received a weekly report and last week, was invited to attend the outcome and findings of the report at a special Report Day where different groups provided their report and outcomes for many varied Not for Profit Organisations.
Dorothy was ecstatic how the students researched Rotary, how/why/what it represented. The students came up with the use of social media to roll out short videos of Family Violence and Elder Abuse in a format that allowed for Clubs, Members to log on and be informed nationally and internationally.
The students presented to Dorothy who was accompanied by an HR from NAB, who specialises in Elder Abuse that the Bank witnesses daily. NAB like many banks, is training its employees how to handle these very common situations and have set up a special department within the Bank to handle these serious issues.
The relationship that has been forged now with Deakin University's Freelancing HUB is to be continued with a Stage 2 next year. This is a "win win" for the terrific students and Rotary Melbourne. Students delivering this report all commented that prior to being part of the Rotary Safe Families initiative, they were not as aware of family violence and elder abuse and felt more confident in being able to identify and call out violence.
Thank you again to Graham and Phil for introducing Dorothy to this initiative at Deakin.
