A QUIET ACHIEVER!

Sandra has been working on the Crown Currency Exchange Initiative with a quiet team from Rotary Melbourne.

Background:
In September 2018 Crown Currency Exchange (Greensborough) rang the RCM office enquiring about the collection of small foreign coins & notes. They mentioned that in the past someone from Rotary collected the currency to convert to AUD and donated towards Rotary Projects.  Jo Mavros and Chris Wang investigated further and created a small project to support our Centenary project - Rotary Give Every Child A Future.

We arranged with Crown Currency Exchange to collect all foreign currency notes and coins from their seven outlets in Melbourne.  The outlets are:

  • Greensborough Plaza
  • Northland Shopping Centre
  • Knox Shopping Centre
  • Chirnside Park Shopping Centre
  • Forest Hill Shopping Centre
  • Parkmore Shopping Centre
  • Watergardens Shopping Centre

At the outlets we have a Donation Box together with the one (1) page flyer describing the Project (see attached photo).
Once collected by our volunteer team of collectors:

  • Sandra Hills
  • Bernie McIntosh
  • John Peberdy
  • Darryl Hawkey
  • Jo Mavros
  • Chris Wang, we send to Change Global Exchange in Brisbane who convert to Australian Dollars less a commission and remit to the nominated RCM Account for Rotary Give Every Child A Future”.

So far we have sent over 60 kgs of notes and coins this year!

The net proceeds for 2018-19 is approx. $2000.00!

PS: If members have foreign notes and coins after an overseas trip and have no need for it, we have a collection box by the Wine Raffle each week or hand to Jo Mavros when convenient.

Thank you to these Quiet Achievers in Rotary Melbourne.
