"The musical was performed at the Aurora School for Deaf and Blind children in Blackburn South. The audience included 3-5 year olds and their carers last month.
The musical is set in the Australian outback and tells the story of a young wombat who escapes from Taronga Zoo for the weekend to go on an adventure to Uluru. The show explores friendship, family, bravery and teamwork, risk taking, decision making and what it means to help one another.
It was a joyous experience for the children and artists involved. The show was directed, written and choreographed by Shondelle Pratt, as her graduation showcase in the Master of Directing for Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne. The project responded to the need for educational and artistic experiences for young children with vision and hearing impairments. It also supported Shondelle who is an accomplished and promising young director."
