He explained the important role that Metro plays in moving suburban Melbournians every day, and the challenges of operating a railway.
In addition, Raymond talked about the “Big Build” being undertaken by the Victorian State Government, which means that Metro is running a railway whilst building a railway. The level of investment is unprecedented, and will change the passenger experience into the future.
The Government has committed to removing 75 level crossings, introducing 165 new six carriage high capacity trains, and building two nine kilometre tunnels under the CBD and five new stations. All of this is being done by a range of companies including John Holland, CPB Contractors, and AECOM.
He also thanked everyone for their patience during the disruption this causes now, while we prepare for the continued growth of our lovely city.
