MINA GULI

Her topic: "Running on Empty" about our world's dwindling water was received with enormous interest and sober reflection. Thanks Peter Davis for this summary.

Mina was insightful and inspiring and the members very much enjoyed her presentation.  Mina outlined her experiences dealing with water shortages in her childhood and described how she became interested in the current and worsening worldwide water shortages, through her work at the World Bank.

We were also provided with insights from Mia about her marathon running in remote locations including Antarctica.  Mina set out with a passion and commitment to running 100 marathons in 100 days around the world.  Unfortunately, but bravely, Mina ran 62 marathons before breaking a leg!  She followed in a wheel chair as her colleagues and fans from around the world, ran the final 38 marathons for her.

Mina explained that the problems associated with water shortages will be at the forefront of the challenges that will flow from climate change, saying that if climate change was the shark, then water shortage would be the teeth of the shark.

She concluded her presentation by outlining things that we all can do to reduce our water consumption.
