EVENING MEETING SUCCESS

Viv Nguyen, Chairperson of the Victorian Multicultural Commission addressed the Evening meeting on the topic of 'Multi-culturalism in Melbourne. How the city is changing and what lies ahead’.

Viv’s insights ranged across the history of immigration and its impact on the Australian economy, through Indigenous recognition, the tension of the law and religious or cultural practices, the importance of sensitivity, listening and understanding between groups. She spoke about her own experience of arriving from Vietnam on a boat in the 1980s speaking no English to becoming the Global Head of diversity at the ANZ. Her talk was so inspiring that it provoked nearly 50minutes of questions and discussion.

Viv’s speech has been podcasted and you can find it on the Rotary website.

We enjoyed the elegance of the Lyceum Club and the professionalism of the staff. Association with venues such as this and the Sofitel enhance our Rotary brand.

The next evening session will be held on Monday, 27 April 2020. It will be a panel discussion with Dr John Wilson, President Elect of the College of Physicians and Dr Louise Segan, Cardiologist about the role of women in specialities such as cardiology. We have invited members of the Women in Medicine Association to join us.  Look forward to seeing you there.
