PP ROBERT FISHER'S REFLECTION

Rotary Melbourne Reflection – 6 May 2020

[Prof John Wilson and Dr Louise Segan – ‘Let’s chat about Women in Medicine – HARD!’]

This evening we welcome two significant physicians as our guest speakers – one who has had a distinguished career in the profession; the other just beginning along that path.

In these peculiar times, we should pause and recognise that we have a health system that operates well, and is filled with dedicated researchers, doctors, nurses and carers who do wonderful work in our universities, hospitals and care homes.

In Rotary Melbourne we are proud to have no fewer than 35 members who are in the health sector – and we celebrate that a third of them are women. So for our wellness we are surrounded by many experts – and when our time is eventually up we even have a member who can help organise our funeral arrangements!

So especially during this pandemic let’s honour our healthcare workers who toil tirelessly in support of families and individuals going through tough times. And let’s acknowledge the major health projects being run in Rotary Melbourne that are helping to eradicate Trachoma and Viral Hepatitis, and to immunise 100,000 children across 9 Pacific Island nations against three life threatening diseases.

Welcome everyone to this meeting, and may we enjoy our virtual Rotary friendships.
