Listen to this broadcast via Brotherhood and Quin on RN

Coronavirus may not be infecting young Australians, but it's certainly forced many into unemployment.  Treasury expects the jobless rate will hit a staggering 10 per cent in the wake of the economic shutdown, but even before the coronavirus pandemic, youth unemployment was higher than that, at around 12 per cent.

Yesterday the chief executive of the Business Council of Australia, Jennifer Westacott, told Breakfast building workforce skills is essential.

The Brotherhood of St Laurence turned its mind to this challenge, working in partnership with the government and industry to develop a National Youth Employment Body.

Guests:

  • Conny Lennenberg, Executive Director of Brotherhood of St Laurence
  • Quin Scalzo, Executive Chairman and founder of Scalzo Food Industries, and Chair of a Brotherhood of St Laurence committee finding jobs for disadvantaged young people in Melbourne

Producer: Justine Parker
