Medical supplies and PPE delivered to Timor-Leste from Australia
A shipment of ten pallets (20ft container) containing medical supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE) has reached Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, on May 19th 2020, from Darwin.
The supplies and shipment were coordinated by the Timor-Leste Embassy in Canberra, Australia, for the delivery of emergency, medical and other essential supplies to respond to the threat posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
“These medical supplies and personal protective equipment will be distributed to those in Timor-Leste responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, including frontline health professionals and members of the police force working in isolation and quarantine facilities,” said Ambassador Ines Almeida.
“I wish to personally thank the solidarity friends of Timor-Leste in Australia. I commend the contributions of Bob Glindemann from Rotary Australia and Alexander Bongers from Procurelink. I praise Dr Nitin Verma, Honorary Consul of Tasmania, Mr Peter McMullin, Honorary Consul of Victoria, and Mr Ted Graham, Honorary Consul of Western Australia for their support and assistance.
I also thank the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and in particular H.E. Ambassador Peter Roberts of the Australian Embassy in Timor-Leste, for their generosity and ongoing assistance to Timor-Leste during the COVID-19 pandemic,” added Ambassador Ines Almeida.
