I had hoped to see many of you at my first Rotary International Convention in Honolulu before heading off to surf in Cali, work at a farm in Vancouver, ride my bicycle across the state of Iowa in RAGBRAI, canoe in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota, and then explore Croatia.
But...then COVID happened. I made new plans.
On Friday, I hiked solo up my first “14er” (4.3 km in elevation), which was Mt Bierstadt in Colorado. My return trip was 4 hours and I spent about 45 minutes in the 5 deg C climate at the summit. I was very proud of my accomplishment and celebrated with a pint at a local brewery at the base of the mountain. There are 58 mountains exceeding 14,000 feet in Colorado, the most of any state. I have lots of exploring yet to do...1 “14er” down and 57 to go!
I’ve attached pictures for your use. Feel free to use whichever one you’d like.
Cheers,
Katie
P.S. I graduated from the University of Melbourne exactly one year ago. There is not one day that goes by when I do not think of how wonderful Australia was to me. I cannot begin to tell you how much I miss it.
One of Rotary Melbourne's gift to Katie was a pair of R100 socks. Here they are on Mt Bierstadt, in Colorado!
