EVENING MEETINGS TAKE CENTRE STAGE

Designed to attract and be more inclusive of members who were not always able to attend lunch-time events, the evening meetings have always served a noble purpose. In 2020, with the lockdown upon us, it is great to have the opportunity once a month to host a more casual, evening event. And the first one this year did not disappoint.

Global Citizen Country Director Sarah Meredith spoke about the not for profit's main goal of ending poverty, how that goal is being impacted by the COVID-19 and current events, and what Global Citizen is doing to adjust to the new normal of operating in lockdown. It was great to hear about an organisation that works closely with Rotary on the global stage, and was founded by a Melbournian, Hugh Evans.

Our guest on Wednesday evening, 12 August is the irreverent, smart and bubbly Kerry Cue. Kerry is an author, journalist, humourist and mathematician. She has written over 20 books and has agreed to provide us with tips and advice on how to start writing our own memoirs. She is really excited about what she's calling a great little COVID project!

Kerry has two new books she's currently promoting and is excited to be a trend-setter working from home and remote work. It will certainly be an entertaining conversation and I hope to see many members and guests in attendance.

In September, I'm delighted to confirm that the much in demand CEO of the Regional Australia Institute has accepted our invitation to speak. Liz Ritchie has been in the news all over Australia in recent weeks, addressing what has become a trendy lockdown conversation topic: "Is it time for us to make a tree-change? Is it also time for Government and business to incentivize regional living?"  In accepting our invitation, Liz mentioned she worked for Rotary early in her career, so I hope we can learn more about that when she speaks in September!

Please join me and the evening committee members online Wednesday, 12 August at 6pm for our catch up with Kerry Cue. If it was anything like our chat on the phone this week, it will be a blast!"
