MALVERN GROUP - DR KATIE ALLEN

Katie spoke clearly and answered all our questions with years of scientific insight as she discussed COVID-19, its beginnings in Australia, the enormous work behind the scenes to provide PPE, ventilators and face masks in readiness for the pandemic.

Katie conveyed her utmost respect for Rotary from when she was doing special research and needed $500,000 to proceed.  Rotary Footscray raised the funds with assistance from other clubs for $250,000 and Katie raised the remainder so the research could be completed.

She was asked what Rotary might do to help right now with the pandemic.  Her response:  If Rotarians could spread the word and be encouraged to get the COVID-19 Safe application on their phones, their family and colleagues phones, this would very much help in the contact tracing that was lagging in Victoria.

Such a simple request.  Have you got the COVID-19 Safe app on your phone?  Could you suggest to your family, friends and colleagues that they ensure they have the app on their phone?

Katie also reminded us that as difficult it was to hear and see other Stages out and about, dining out, visiting friends, Victoria is 9 weeks behind other States.  "We can catch up!"
