MEET A NEW MEMBER - BRUCE HARMER

Bruce Harmer was inducted on 26th August into Rotary Melbourne with the classification ‘NGO – The Salvation Army’.

Bruce was born in Bowen, Queensland, a carpenter by trade, Bruce has also achieved two Masters degrees of Health Studies majoring in Addiction Studies and Loss and Grief through the University of Queensland.

Bruce has been involved in The Salvation Army his entire life, and under the influence of his dedicated parents, it came as no surprise when Bruce entered The Salvation Army’s Training College in 1989.

Bruce is Married to Carolyn. They are the proud parents of his four adult sons, Callum, Lachlan, Dylan and Jordan, two daughters in-law, Jenna and Emily and two beautiful grandchildren.

For the first seven years of his officership, Bruce was predominantly involved in church appointments leading congregations of both city and country churches, including a church plant in the Westlakes NSW area and Leading the Salvation Army’s church in the heart of Sydney. For fourteen years Bruce was involved in Drug and Alcohol Recovery Services where he managed residential and out-client facilities for both men and women in the ACT, NSW and Queensland.

While appointed in Townsville for 7 years Bruce was a member of the Rotary Club of Townsville and served as President of the club. It was here where Bruce received his Paul Harris Fellow Award. Bruce moved to Sydney and served as the Territorial Communications and Public Relations Secretary for The Salvation Army Australia Eastern Territory (Qld, NSW and ACT).

In May of 2019 Bruce relocated to Victoria and is currently serving in concurrent appointments as National Head of Public Relations and Public Relations Secretary - Victoria and is also the Assistant Executive Officer to The Melbourne Staff Band of The Salvation Army.
