Greg joined our Club on the 27th June in 2001 – his sponsor was David Jones.
A senior leader in the not-for-profit sector with extensive personal networks. Greg spent most of his career in senior roles in not-for-profit organisations in the area of development.
In a voluntary capacity, he was a member of the Australian Institute of International Affairs, where he was treasurer for six years. A former Director and Vice President of the Rotary Club of Melbourne in Chris Wang’s year and Chair of the club’s Community Foundation, and a founding Director and Company Secretary of Foundation Booroondara. Greg resigned from the Club and joined the RC Mansfield when he moved regionally in March 2019.
Ultimately, most of his life has been spent working with donors and volunteers to meet both their and my organisation’s expectations.
He always had a ready smile, was always keen to help, and he made a difference to other people lives. His work for Arts organisations including Opera Australia and FM radio – 3MBS radio was tireless and valuable.
We have been in contact with Greg’s sister Jennifer Batrouney QC to express our condolences and her reply expressed that Greg loved Rotary and his fellow Rotarians, he received a lot of support from Rotary over the years and she thanked us for that.
Greg had a fall at his home in Gaffney’s Creek near Mansfield and died as a result of that. A date for his funeral has not been set as yet.
He had amazing talent for connecting with people. He will be greatly missed. Vale Greg.
