CHRIS SOTIROPOULOS: Reflections of my time in Rotary

Attending the Rotary UN Day at the UN Building in New York (November 2009) opened my eyes to the scope of projects from many parts of the globe as well as meeting with the project champions and being magnetised by their passion and enthusiasm. I did sit at the Australian delegate's seat, which was also a proud moment for me!

Some highlights of my Rotary Melbourne journey:
- Stepping into the role of Chair of the Community Health and Ageing committee imbibe me with the importance of projects which impact the community as well as projects important for Fellowship and wellbeing. The discussions are always robust and we look forward to introducing important projects reflecting community concerns impacting us in the 'new normal'.
- The Rotary Great Debate 2020, to be held online, on 5 November 6:30pm - an event not to be missed. The great interstate challenge between our Club and the Rotary Club of Sydney. "Reversing Climate is Mission Possible" is the topic and we are the affirmative. Led by a great team, Dr. Suresh Marcandan, Ms. Mikaela Stafrace, Mr. Nick Pelham, Ms. Serena Low and myself. Funds raised will be directed to the worthwhile Rotary Australasian centenary project "Give every Child a Future".
- I recently completed the first online Rotary Leadership Institute program, delivered compassionately by Julie Mason and Lesley McCarthy. What a wonderful insight to the history of Rotary, reflecting on the values and virtues of the Rotary 'DNA' as well as recently knowledge of pathways for fundraising. The program also resulted in close relationships with Rotarians from other Clubs, learning of their challenges during the second COVID Lockdown. I highly recommend this program to all Rotarians.
- Reflecting on the activities and members within our Club, leadership and members display strength and unfailing commitment to the values of the Rotary family and desire to improve our broad communities.
- We are all in good hands! (Yes, we are with Members like Chris Sotiropoulos)
